Qumu MediaNet

Qumu provides multiple options for customers for video distribution. For customers looking to utilize existing streaming servers for live video distribution, the Qumu MediaNet product automates the process. Alternatively, customers can leverage best of breed content distribution networks (CDNs) for both live and video-on-demand distribution.

Features

  • Leverage Your Infrastructure – Qumu intelligently manages the distribution of content to best of breed CDN’s including: Blue Coat, Cisco ACNS, Network Appliance NetCache, Stratacache OmniCast, AT&T ICDS, and Akamai. We provide an easy-to-use interface to simplify the process of distributing streaming video files over the network so that non-technical employees can package and publish video programs without involving the IT department in the process.
  • Publishing Point Automation – MediaNet automates the setting up of publishing points on all streaming servers on the network. It recognizes various roles that a server may play: origin point, distribution node, edge node. A simple user interface is provided to select origin and destination nodes and MediaNet selects a distribution route. MediaNet saves bandwidth by offering the option to select particular edge nodes or groups of edge nodes.
  • Unicast and Multicast Flexibility – MediaNet allows administrators to specify whether a publishing point is capable of supporting multicast or unicast, and provides multicast-to-unicast failover on designated servers.
  • Streaming Server Monitoring – MediaNet automatically monitors all streaming servers and displays failure notices immediately if any of the servers fail. This helps ensure a successful event for the viewing audience.
  • Failover – MediaNet also provides automatic routing of user requests to the closest streaming edge server, and failover to the second closest server. It uses automatically-generated server-side playlists to implement a robust level of failover across the network. Playlists are generated on origin streaming servers, distribution servers, and edge servers to provide automated failover for encoders and streaming servers at all levels.
  • Multicast Announcement Automation – MediaNet automatically creates multicast announcement files for dynamically-created publishing points on edge servers. The announcement files are built in a way that guarantees uninterrupted viewing in the case of an encoder failure.
  • Live Broadcast Workflow – MediaNet provides a simple interface to manage the testing, provisioning, starting, monitoring, stopping, and tearing down of the dynamic streaming network configuration.

Benefits

  • Saves time by automating the creation and tearing down of publishing points on streaming servers.
  • Improves viewer retention by ensuring that viewers remain connected to the video stream in the case of an encoder or streaming server failure.
  • Enhances viewer experience by eliminating delays.
  • Allows administrators to supply both multicast and unicast options by location.
  • Automates the monitoring of connections during a live event so any problems can be detected and solved immediately.
  • Leverages existing hardware investment by operating on Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 servers that are already resident in the network.
